Alejandro Coca Castro

Alejandro obtained his bachelor degree in Agronomic Engineer from Universidad Nacional de Colombia in 2011. He has developed a strong background in environmental monitoring and modeling using geospatial technologies such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing. He has participated in the development of models and worked on monitoring systems as Terra-i which has identified and mapped the most important conservation issues facing ecosystems in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Beyond mere analysis, his work has involved global dissemination of results and training national stakeholders in the application of GIS and remote sensing tools for conservation purposes. In addition, he has involved in conservation organizations and working groups such as the Society of Conservation GIS (SCGIS) and the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO). He has shared his findings in blog posts and reported learning experiences and data to regional conservation and GIS communities. To date Alejandro has presented his work at the largest global GIS conference (ESRI UC) in USA and participated in multiple workshops led by well-recognized organizations of the region.

Member of the Terra-i project and research assistant at the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT).

Alejandro Coca Castro will be speaker at Seminário Gestores Públicos de Geoinformação,to be held in may 7th as part of MundoGEO#Connect LatinAmerica 2014, Conference and Trade Fair on Geomatics and Geospatial Solutions, in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
